Welcome to the NetKismet Physics blog. As an introduction I'd like to begin this work with a Zen saying from the founding father of the Zen religious philosphy, a brilliant mind who seemed to get quieter at the same rate as he grew wiser. His name is Lao-Tsu and the quote is this..."without leaving my house, I know the whole universe."
To understand Physics better I've utilized this website and other hosted websites, such as blogs; when documenting what I've learned or what I'm still trying to learn. These topics all seem to me to be related to the formulation of a Theory of Everything (a Grand Unification Theory) in that all my questions lead back to the big question (which is really three big questions) - that may never be answered in my lifetime, or even the lifespan of the human race: what were the conditions at the time of the big bang, and if we understand that; could we then understand; or have a glimmer of, any pre-big bang conditions? And would that then, give us an idea of what will come of our universe?
To get right down to the nitty-gritty; we know that science has been on a quest to formulate a GUT since Einstein. We also know that (since the early 1900's) there are four fundamental forces of nature and these are what science is trying to unify; Electromagnetism, Gravity, and the Strong and Weak Nuclear force. To date, science has comined three of these forces into one in a theory called 'Electroweak'...but is still stumped when it comes to Gravity.
In Particle Physics, we learned that at the time of the Big Bang; the laws of physics are broken down and the four forces all combined into one before they split up. To help understand why, we're going to study everything we can get our hands on that talks about the Big Bang; look at scientific data which outlines the timeline of the Big Bang, look at Particle Physics; Light, Time, Relativity, Gravity, Electromagnetism, Black Holes, and whatever else comes across our path that seems related.
Since that is my primary interest most of the stuff I publish will be related to it somehow.
